HIV/AIDS MITIGATION
Spearheading public, private and nongovernmental organisation sector programmes to address the economic impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

HIV/AIDS poses one of the greatest threats to southern and eastern Africans in their battle to bring a large percentage of the population out of poverty and into the full economy. The effects of HIV/AIDS on one family member can produce an economic shock to the entire household and extended family network. Addressing the economic impact of HIV/AIDS on South Africans therefore becomes a critical corollary to the work being done to help those who are infected with HIV/AIDS on the health and social services side.

Since 2000 ECIAfrica has placed emphasis on addressing the impact of HIV/AIDS on micro, small, medium-sized enterprises. We have advised provincial and national government clients on mainstreaming HIV/AIDS into development planning. We have partnered with nongovernmental organisations and community-based organisations to develop communication plans, public awareness campaigns and broad strategy. In the financial sector, we have trained microfinance institutions, and have advised regulatory bodies on dealing with HIV/AIDS impact on this sector.

More specifically, the services we provide include:
  • HIV/AIDS mainstreaming into government development planning
  • Service delivery reform
  • Strategic planning
  • Impact assessments
  • Public awareness and community outreach
  • Workplace training
  • Public-private partnerships
